Auto Races Planned for Cass County Fair

The Cass County Fair will host qualified dirt track racing on Wednesday September 7 under the International Motor Contest Association sanction. Atlantic track approval comes after a spring inspection, with improvements planned for fencing and safety zones to ensure a top class event attracting stars from Iowa Minnesota and Nebraska State Fairs.

Cramer's Corner Home Demolished for Gasoline Station

West Main street landmark once home of the late Senator John Voorhees is torn down to make way for a gas filling station. Brick walls are removed and dirt dumped near the Smither & Turner ice storage plant south of the Rock Island tracks. A new building will rise there before the poultry season in connection with Smither & Turner interests.

Our chief operator Miss Lanny takes an indefinite vacation due to ill health. Miss Herriman also takes a vacation and will return July 25. Miss Forshay is hospitalized in Atlantic and may not return until late September. New chief operator Miss Geraldine Cleaver of Rolfe Iowa assumes duties July 21. Kieth Chinn and wife of West Palm Beach Florida spent a weekend in Anita as guests of Mick Forshay and others. Blinded by lights car goes into ditch near Anita

Returning from Omaha, Fred Knowlton, his wife and daughter Evona, plus Mrs. Grace Wilson Grotenfendt and A. F. Higgens, escaped serious injury when their auto veered off the road east of the Voorhees Estate two miles west of Anita. Blinded by approaching headlights, the car tipped onto its top after tumbling twice. Mrs. Knowlton suffered cuts and bruises from broken glass.

Obituary: Angus C Gochanour 1850 1927 Longtime Anita Resident

Angus C. Gochanour died at his daughter Eva Hayter's home near Anita Iowa July 17 1927 at age 77 after a long illness from a fractured hip. He married Eva Parker in 1878 in LaSalle IL and had nine children. Funeral held at Anita M E church with Rev E O Douglass officiating and burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
