Death of Sherm S. Winchell in Coffeyville Kans

Long time Cass county resident Sherm S. Winchell died January 24 1928 at his Coffeyville home after a brief illness from heart trouble at age sixty seven. He had earlier farmed near Anita and between Anita and Wicta before moving to a modern farm near Coffeyville. He married Jennie Green and had several children living across the country. Funeral services and interment were in Coffeyville.

Gas Stove Explosion Causes Bakery Fire

A gas stove explosion in the City Bakery on Main Street started the blaze Monday morning. Hugo Wiese owned the bakery in a brick building owned by Dr. H. E. Campbell. The fire caused extensive damage to structure and equipment, including dough, with insurance covering both building and contents.

Former Anita Boy Makes Good in No. Dak

Harry Scholl of Washburn North Dakota has spent a week in Anita visiting his parents and relatives. He moved to North Dakota over twenty years ago, built a well equipped stock farm of several hundred acres, and ships livestock yearly. His wife once raised and sold turkeys earning more than $800. He recently traveled to St Paul with two carloads of cattle and sheep before returning to Anita.

Jos M Garside renewed two subscriptions to the Record for 1928, one for himself and one for his longtime friend Frank Richey of Anita. Richey, a former Home attendant at the Odd Fellows' Home in Mason City, Iowa, is in declining health after a paralytic stroke.

Bell brothers and kin recover after Greenfield crash

The Bell brothers Aaron Ed Howard and their relatives Mr and Mrs Ruseller suffered serious injuries last week five miles south of Greenfield. Ed Bell returned home with hip back pain and possible internal injuries while Aaron Bell remains in Creston hospital with an eye injury and multiple cuts. Orville Bell in Illinois is in critical condition after a fall from a thirty foot tower.
