A patriotic exhortation urging nationwide resolve during wartime. It honors families saying goodbye to loved ones joining the service and calls all citizens to support Our Boys through any duty at home, keeping the home fires burning as a symbol of loyalty and sacrifice.
Clarence Petty writes from Fort Mills Corregidor detailing 600 men arriving in Manila July 8. He describes barracks on a mountain above Manila Bay, meals, tropical island scenery, and a ten day voyage via Nagasaki. He mentions pay due August 6 and a 66 dollar wage, with music duties for officers.
Mary Dacy of Montreal born May 1842 died August 18 1918 at 76 years 3 months 10 days in Anita Iowa. She married twice James Kernen died years later and Sylvester Kirkham with whom she had five children including Homer Kirkham and Joseph H Kirkham. Funeral August 20 1918 at Congregational church conducted by Elder Chas Pickford. Interment Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs Andrew Johnson and Mrs Frank H Morrison are improving, Rev Eben A Thomas stays home ill, Walter Hook unchanged, D W Faulcher can sit up briefly, and Mrs B C Melerotte of Red Oak, Iowa, passes telegrapher exam and may be assigned to a station soon. Mrs Melerotte is daughter of local residents.
The Adair News notes Sherm Myers recovering and hoped to join wartime activities. Geo Talty and wife of Adair visited the city Saturday. Congressman Green advocates graduated tax on excess corporate profits to fund government needs and aid small corporations.
Card of thanks expresses gratitude to neighbors and family for kindness during illness and death of Mrs. O. C. Moree and family members. A traffic mishap near Adair involved Albert Karns’ car rolling. he escaped with minor injuries. An editorial note criticizes government control and advocates better public service with less dirty politics.
Mutchy McIntyre reports from Philadelphia on slacker raids and race riots during August 1918. He mentions a near mob incident, news of Iowa casualties, and a planned homeward trip with friend Lattig while noting submersible fears and local entertainment. He also references a Red Cross fundraiser play in Berea with Frank J. McCord directing.

He notes regimental pride, possible furlough after a year, hopes to visit Seattle, and mentions rains and mud, discipline, and the ease of life compared with front lines. He also observes officers from the east and scouts about war work.
