Local items note the first open cotton of the season from W B Binkely near Earles on August 1 and another open bale from J Barfield of Oak Ridge on August 6. The column records visitors, relocations, a wedding invitation line, and births reflecting life in Andrews and nearby communities.
A long roster of individuals and firms contributed tobacco to the Red Cross over the past week, including many named residents and business names. The piece also notes local social updates such as railroad and naval service, telegrams, and upcoming tobacco sales along with remarks on women suffrage and civic duty.
The Andrews Branch completed and shipped on August 1 a relief bundle containing 45 bed sheets 25 bed shirts 28 undershirts 27 drawers 30 sweaters and 10 pairs of socks. The colored auxiliary contributed 15 bed shirts and 54 hand towels in this shipment.

Mr W T Rowell of Trio visited Andrews on Monday and announced a tobacco market will operate next season. Plans are under way to build a handsome warehouse in the progressive town. Mr A C McElveen of the Oak Ridge area also visited Andrews Monday. Mrs L T Boyer left Tuesday for Charleston where Mr Boyer has been employed for some time.
