Andrews residents and visitors appear in a busy local items column noting coffeehouse customers, subscriptions to The News, and social calls. Trio, S. C., and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Register honor five of seven sons serving in the U S armed forces. Asst. Surgeon D. W. Register, J. L. Register, Robt. E. Register, A. R. Register, and Edward C. Register are named with ranks, schooling, and stations at Navy Yard Charleston Pensacola Camp Jackson and Citadel. Also listed are local Red Cross tobacco contributions from many residents.
The Red Cross records tobacco sale receipts for last week from Tuesday July 23 to Friday July 26 totaling 276.53 with daily results of 54.94 64.47 84.03 and 73.07. Members are urged to volunteer for next week starting Tuesday bar 6th and notes that about half the group could not work due to various reasons.

In a Tuesday morning shooting at the A C L Railroad shops Murry Robinson killed Willie Burgess after an argument. Burgess died from a gunshot wound near Georgetown. Robinson was arrested miles from the scene as the coroner opened an inquest and the jury ruled death by Robinson's gunfire.
J R Matthews of Raleigh says he will start building a new Seaboard Roundhouse in about ten days in Andrews. The facility will cover about 100 by 100 feet with a 51 foot addition storehouse, signaling Andrews as a planned home terminal and railroad center. Local anticipation grows for further progressive improvements.
The community enjoyed a fish fry at W D Byrdie's tobacco barn on Friday with many attendees and hopes for another invitation to Williams Barn. Capers West visited Sunday. Bessie Mae Gordon and Carol Andrews visited with Mr Williams. tire trouble on the trip noted. Bob Norton left for Alvin to resume his blacksmith duties. another chicken supper planned at R E Blakeley's barn. Blakeley family from Andrews stayed with J M Blakeley's mother. Perequere.
Messrs Jimmie Blakeley and Arthur Reece left Tuesday for a week's visit to Washington Baltimore and New York. Mrs C L Holtzscheiter Jr is spending awhile with relatives at Rhems.
The Eve pleased guests at Mrs. Willis Moore's home with music and dancing for an Ice Cream festival honoring Edward Lee Altman who reported to Camp Jackson Wednesday. Mrs Albert Haselden helped host as Claude Parsons served ice cream to attendees including Belle Altman Pearl Mixon Lucille McConnell Dorothy Terry Olive McCants Mella Player Eva Player Florence Swailes Violet Haselden Clyde Swailes Acne Swailes Laurence Player Edward Altman Blackman Altman Dewey McCants Vernon Haselden and Claude Parsons.
A revival meeting will begin at Spring Gully Baptist Church on the second Sunday in August. Rev. W H Whaley will assist the pastor. Everyone is cordially invited to attend. Rev W R Barns, Pastor.
