Two young men from Lamesa Baptist Church will speak at the local Baptist Church this week Marion Mos ley in the morning and James Crumley at night They are lay workers who have conducted a mission on Lamesa east side and led a revival with about thirty conversions The pastor is in revival with Rev Gentry and the Florey church Crowds are large for the town with rededications and local attendance includes Mr J D Scott from Patricia and Miss Laura Lu Howell at piano
The Young People’s Class of the Methodist Church held a party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Moxley on Tuesday night August 29. Many games were played and enjoyed by all with attendees Ira Sue Burkett, Jack Fitzgerald, Frances May, Kenneth Thompson, Joe Dillard, Yvonne Mae Suggs, Ray Jackson, Joy Stovall, J. W. and Arlene Moxley, H. M. Smith, Carmen Snipes, Kathryn Davis, and the class teachers Mrs. W. T. Davis.
Carmen Snipes heads to Lubbock Friday to begin work and enroll at Tech this fall. The Editor and his wife with daughter Ruby Louise and son Charles Jr. accompany the note.
Two 18 year olds James Gray and Foster Bobo along with J A Clark 35 were jailed here Tuesday on gasoline theft charges from Hubb Nixon’s car outside Andrews. A C Smith alerted authorities after catching them siphoning fuel. all three were fined $18 and costs but could not pay and remained jailed. Extradition papers are being sought to return them to New Mexico.
Pittman, formerly a driller, will depart Houston on Sept 15 aboard a Standard of New Jersey tanker to Carapito Venezuela to join Standard Oil Co. of Venezuela as drilling engineer. His wife and two children will accompany him.
County Judge W G Burkett and commissioners Bill Wilson Marvin M Fisher Bud Young and M A Thornberry with Sam M Smith lead a delegation from Eunice N M Stanton and Big Spring to the State Highway Commission to seek designation for the Eunice to Big Spring highway and insist on hard surfacing as soon as possible. Construction crews continue with the New Courthouse foundation and concrete pouring soon. Wage rates during construction are listed: Common Labor 40 cents per hour Carpenters 1.00 Steel workers 1.00 Brick masons and plasterers 1.50.
Mr and Mrs Kelsie Lay announce the birth of a daughter named Shirley Ann born Wednesday morning August 30. Both mother and baby are reported doing fine.
Mrs. S. T. Meador hosted a Friday afternoon party for her daughter Helen Beth turning 10. Guests included Zula Mae Boyd Dorothy Burden Marjorie Ray Ella Mae McConkey Cornelia Peggy Jean Betty Lou Payne Martha Jo Guthrie Bobbie Lee Shire Barbara Pippen and Francis Beard with ice cream and cake served.
A faculty meeting for Andrews Public Schools is called for 3 30 p m Monday to review plans for the new school year and outline work ahead. Superintendent Hamilton asks all patrons to attend the assembly at 9 a m in the High School Auditorium to meet teachers and hear essential announcements. He emphasizes community support for a strong Texas school and improving teacher student understanding.
Superintendent Hamilton announced the 1939 Andrews Mustang football schedule with one open date on November 24. The season opens September 22 at home against Ropesville, with nine more games listed including Seagraves Stanton O Donnell Rankin Seminole Midland and one night game.
The Board of Trustees selected a highly prepared faculty for Andrews High School led by Superintendent Thomas D. Hamilton who will teach part of the math. Principal T. K. Price brings thirteen years of teaching, and Miss Willie Allen leads English. The staff includes Lydia Kelly in Commerce, J. Lee Smith in History, McMurray College recruit Anthony coaching and teaching science, and W. W. King as Band Director with a musical pedigree. Ward School’s Rufus F. Walker assigns English and has completed a master's at Hardin-Simmons.
