The letter lauds Guy McGill and Bernice Evans for switching from butane to natural gas and advancing plans swiftly. Seventeen men and two women appear on the Andrews County trustee ballot for the Rural High School District election to be held Saturday April first. Voters will choose seven trustees from nineteen names and elect two County Board members. New female candidates mark the first such run. Names on ballot include Dr. J G Little and Mrs Joe Lewis among others. Additional signatures added E B Lowrie Walter Matthews O H Ogden J A Fowell and D C Nix joining the list.
Oil circles whisper that two wildcat wells will be started soon in Andrews County. One would be drilled north of Andrews and the other south and west of the Fuhrman pool. Ford No 14 in the Fuhrman pool remains stuck at 4200 feet. Fuhrman Ford No 15 underway at 7 inch casing. Gulf No Grey estate acidized with 9000 gallons of acid. no test reported.
Rev. G. H. Bryant is rapidly recovering from a severe heart attack suffered last week. His physician has ordered a long stay in bed to aid recovery.
Mrs. C. M. Bristow wife of Dr. C. M. Bristow Stanton pioneer was killed when the car she rode in was struck by a freight train at a downtown crossing. The body was taken to Odessa this afternoon.
King George VI will carry the $2.5 million imperial crown of state to Canada in the spring tour. The crown has never left England before and will be used when the monarch appears in Parliament in Ottawa.
The 23rd Sand Hills Hereford Show opens March 23 in Odessa with registered Herefords club calves fat lambs and choice poultry from over twenty Texas counties. Judging March 24 follows a parade led by Murray H. Fy superintendent of Odessa schools. On March 25 Taylor White will auction calves and lambs raised by Odessa boys to market.
Andrews high school hosts visiting West Texas track teams Saturday starting at 1 30 p m on the athletic field. Coach Hynds reports strong form after a good showing at Irran last Saturday with W B Walters taking second in vault and Dalton Echols fourth in the half mile. Despite sandstorms and bad weather the team improves and a large crowd is expected with the Senior Class selling drinks and candy at the grounds if weather allows.
Andrews Gas Company owners Guy McGill and Bernice Evans move two inch pipe along the right of way across University of Texas land to the highway. They expect to lay the line within 15 days as UT grants and county franchise rights.
Transactions filed in the Andrews County and District Clerk's office from March 9 to March 15 1939 cover oil firm reorganizations assignments and property liens. Notable entries include Magnolia Petroleum Co to State of Texas transfers and multiple drill contracts plus land interests in sections and blocks across Andrews.
The Andrews County Board of Trustees met with all members present. Carl Sealy Jack Little and Judge Benson attended. They studied methods to implement the Civil Court of Appeals ruling affirming Florey vs Andrews County School Board with a countywide Rural High School election likely soon.
The Board of Trustees elected Miss Lucile Waldron as tax collector and assessor for the Andrews Rural High School District and as secretary and business manager. Her duties begin July 1, replacing F. Darryl F. Zanuck’s 20th Century Fox Technicolor epic stars Tyrone Power Henry Fonda and Nancy Kelly in the life of the famed outlaw. Wallace Theatre presents the film Saturday night and Sunday matinee with Monday showtime.
National oil industry leaders urged Texas to maintain production limits and Saturday Sunday shutdowns at a March 17 proration hearing. Technologists from across the interstate oil compact warned that any rise in output in the next three months would hurt stability. Attendees included delegates from Texas Illinois Oklahoma New Mexico Kansas Colorado Michigan California and Louisiana.
District aims to assume the bonded indebtedness and establish the tax rate for the new district. The move involves equalizing assessments and formalizing fiscal obligations as part of district reorganization.
