The Chamber of Commerce urges property owners to list available furnished and unfurnished rental houses for One Hundred Pipeline Families visiting Andrews and Lubbock. Work on the pipeline is expected to last four to six months, weather permitting, with the contracting company HQ in the area.

The construction office sits in a trailer west of Kermit on the Mentone Highway as supervisory staff oversee a Northern Natural Gas pipeline project. The crew moved to the site weeks ago and plan to return to Andrews on another occasion to share details about the community.

Andrews to Open Vocational Distributive Education Program

Mike Hinson arrives from Coleman to lead a new distributive education program at Andrews High School. The plan calls for half day classes and half day work in wholesale or retail fields starting this fall, with about 42 interested students and an advisory council including administrators teachers merchants and chamber members. Lake Fills After Long Dry Spell With Sunday Showers

Andrews waited ten months for measurable rain as crops and rangelands suffered through a dry spell. Rain arrived Saturday night with showers continuing Sunday from 3.6 to 4.3 inches in town and up to six inches between Andrews and Kermit.

Riders Head Toward the Sun for Pecos Rodeo Trek

Mary Carpenter Andrews reports on the West Texas Trail Riders Association forming a moving camp at Three-Bar for a multi day ride to the Pecos Rodeo. About 154 riders started Tuesday with support from motorized trailers and a chuck wagon offering meals for three dollars a day.

Post Office Returns to Sw Second Street Location

The local Post Office moves back to its former SW Second Street site after months in temporary East Broadway facilities during remodeling. Postmaster Bob Luck says operations resume today with full normalcy hoped this week, easing traffic backups per local police.

J. W. Riley of 306 SE Second shot Charles Holland, former son in law, around 9 30 p m Tuesday as Holland forced entry into the Riley home. Holland was hospitalized at Permian General and Deputy Frank Williams led the investigation. District Attorney Don Nugent said no charges now but the case will go before the grand jury next session.

Museum Group Sets Plans for County Pioneers

The Andrews County Museum Association met in the courthouse to form a pioneer list and appoints Mrs. Carl Sealy to lead the committee gathering names and information. Gene Irwin Nan Morrison and A W Harrison were named to prepare donation forms for citizens.

Court Reporter Heads State Group

Fred Swanson the 109th District Court Reporter will become president of the Texas Shorthand Reporters Association at the state meet in Houston. He began in Littlefield in 1950, served in the Army, and joined the District Court in 1955. His brothers Ernest in Denver and John in Pecos also are reporters. They grew up on a Littlefield farm and say court reporting drew them from farming.

Tools Burn in Unit Fire Near Kermit Highway

Midland Well Service reported tools stolen or burned seven miles out on the Kermit Highway at the Adobe Oil and King Estate lease. The pul ling unit burned before rain on Saturday evening with no tracks found. Sheriff J A Gregory said investigation seeks to determine if theft occurred prior to the fire.
