Max. FE. Ramsey was installed as president of the Andrews Lions Club at a three way meeting at the county park on Monday night. The event combined a ladies night barbecue and installation services with F. L. Cochran in charge. new officers include Claud E. Neely, For rest Noble, S. N. Galloway, Roland Tilly, Rev. Raymond Van Zandt and new directors F. Kennedy and John E. Smith.
Texas Electric officials and employés held a barbecue in Odessa to outline the 1950s show. The June 27 to 29 event at Ector County Auditorium will feature a circus theme with Barker clowns steam caliope and band. Joe Hodges warned of red ink risk while noting federal deficits over two decades. Attendees included G S Kidd of Andrews and C W Roberts Sr.
J. Lee Smith was elected Worshipful Master at the Masonic Lodge meeting on Tuesday night. Tom Anglin became Senior Deacon, with F. M. Robertson Jr as Deacon, Bob Cook as Secretary, Bob Luck as Treasurer, and Virgil Lasater as Tiler. appointees include C. B. Strickland, C. E. Robertson, Senior Stewards, and Curtis Corley, Junior Steward. Installation set for June 27.
Father Lensing of St. Mary's Catholic Church Odessa will say Mass at 10 00 a m in the American Legion Hall 700 West Broadway Andrews on Sunday June 18 1950.
The Adams Food Market has been sold to Cordes brothers Edwin and LeRoy with Chester assisting. Edwin brings four years and LeRoy thirteen years in groceries. they plan to run the store in the same efficient, courteous manner, improving service where possible. The Cordes are La Grange natives. Edwin is single, LeRoy is married with a two year old son.
Alton Brazell of Lubbock Texas will represent the Future Farmers of America in the British Isles this summer. He has served as National Vice President State Vice President of the Lubbock Future Farmer Alumni Association and was elected secretary of the State Future Farmer Alumni Association. He earned the American Farmer Degree in October 1948 and has traveled extensively to promote vocational agriculture.
Merchants households and families brace for the Lions Club annual clean up as trucks manned by Lions pick up all piled trash in alleys and streets. Merchants urged to close 1 to 4 pm Tuesday while crews erase paper trash and refuse downtown.
Gov Allan Shivers formally announces his bid for a first elected term as governor stressing his record, economy, and public works. He cites prior service as lieutenant governor and senator, and vows to address all Texans with a measured platform.
The revival meeting at First Christian Church, led by Rev. Ray Protzman and guests Rev. and Mrs. G. C. Schurman, continues through Wednesday June 21. Sermon topics include The All-sufficient Saviour and What Will You Do With Christ, with services at 8 p m each evening inviting the community.
A petition with about 150 voters signatures seeks a beer and wine election in Andrews County. It was turned to County Clerk Sam M. Smith for verification before presentation to the Commissioners Court, which must order the election to occur 20 to 30 days after.
Jerry D. Woods driving a 1947 Chevrolet Sedan collided with a 1949 Ford Pickup driven by Thomas Carter at the intersection of 100 Southwest 2 Street and 200 Southwest A. Neither driver was injured. The Ford Pickup was owned by Andrews Gas Company. Damages totaled 450 dollars for the Chevrolet and 200 dollars for the Ford.

Jim Worley owner of Worley Welding Shop and Andrews High School welding teacher announces candidacy for precinct four commissioner. He joins four others including Dave Sisson H E Clack Dennis Nix and Winifred Hudgens with July primary in sight. Worley cites road-building experience and local residence as qualifications.
Andrews tennis enthusiasts schedule a Sunday 2 p.m. tournament at the high school courts. Open to anyone with a racket and energy, with both double and single matches. Registration at the court or via E. L. Marley Corner Drug or Lynn Rice St Clairs Department Store.
The Andrews golf association won a key approval Monday to move the proposed rodeo grounds from the west to the south side of the county airport. Pending CAA consent, the club will pursue 16 acres west of the airport owned by Russell Austin to support a new nine hole layout. County Judge Milton Ramsey said the court would seek highway paving commitments on high ways 51 and 87 during a trip to Austin. Johnny Smith chairs the committee with W. W. Dingle C. E. Carruth and Bill McKeen as members.
