Plans went ahead this week for a memorial drag race sponsored by the Boys Club to be held June 29 at the airport runways. The event honors plane crash victims killed in an airplane wreck during a trip to set up drag race plans for the club. The club board met to plan the event as a money raising project.
Light rain fell overnight into Tuesday with a .04 inch total reported in northwest Andrews. Other county areas recorded no precipitation during the light shower.
One person was injured in two separate one car crashes over the weekend in Andrews County. Kelly Mathis, 19, of Midland, suffered a head laceration and a skull x ray at Permian General Hospital after a 1 15 p m Sunday wreck on Telephone Road 11 miles south. The car left the road, struck the shoulder, veered into a ditch and rolled. On Saturday at 5 15 p m a Pecos woman, Mrs Bob Phelps, 46, driving a 196 car on the Kermit highway 22 miles west of Andrews, lost control after a left rear tire blew and the vehicle overturned twice. she was not hospitalized.
