G I and L s invite to a Court House gathering Monday night to discuss learning to fly. Seminole instructor G H Stanfield announces lessons start July 1 and use of Andrews County Airport as an auxiliary field with plans for a dedicated school building and telephone line.
The new pool opened Thursday for the first time this year drawing hundreds who swam as the county’s drought left little water for recreation. Water filled by 2 a m after pump fixes. coach Francis Tubb expects 100 more suits and towels, with lifeguard Wesley Roberts on duty. Admission is 25 cents for adults and 15 cents for children under 12.
James H. Jackson 30 of Andrews pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated after colliding on the Kermit Highway. He was fined 200 dollars plus costs, jailed 60 days, and his license suspended six months by County Judge Raymond Stoker. An earlier accident on the Andrews Highway injured Roe Price of Andrews and an unidentified companion.
L. W. Reynolds of Longview Texas is named field superintendent of the Stanolind Andrews Division. His family will join him soon. they include three children and Mrs Reynolds. Reynolds replaces COR whe who was transferred to Sundown Texas.
Summer session begins with about 40 students. Forty split between Senior and Junior High, no grammar school. Teachers include Mr and Mrs J Lee Smith and M C Woolam for senior high, H O Smith for makeup work, courses in English Texas History Algebra and Plane Geometry. School closes July 30.
G B Sarrill 88 died at his daughter Mrs W L Martindale home on a Sinclair lease in the northwest county area. He was born in Salem Mississippi and had been ill for weeks. The remains will go to Alister Oklahoma for interment. Singleton Funeral Home handles arrangements. Mr Martindale works for Sinclair Oil Company.
Dallas dispatch notes that bottled gas now powers diverse farm tasks and ranch chores, with usage up 299 percent since 1941. The report highlights the expanding role of bottled gas in rural operations and its impact on efficiency.
Adj. Gen. K L Berry announced in Austin that plans to set up 279 draft boards in Texas including six in Dallas County are ready and will take effect if Congress passes the selective service law.

An accredited World War I veteran, Lewis earlier worked with the Lubbock Chamber and Torrance California Chamber.

The American Legion invites members and interested non members to a basket lunch next Thursday June 17 at 5 30 p m on Legion grounds. The Senior Scout Troop of Andrews departs Friday for Fort Worth to spend a week as guests at Carswell Army Air Base. They will undergo navigation and link training and fly in a B 36. Supt. T D Hamilton escorts the group including Neill Longley Robert Forbes Billy Wilson Bobby Joe Barnes and Joe Weatherby.

Joe Chambers recently graduated from a Houston mortician school and assumed leadership of Single ton's Funeral Home. He is the son of Mrs. C. E. Chambers of Andrews and completed the nine month program in Houston, passing the Texas state exam in Austin. He will serve as ambulance driver mortician and embalmer.
