Two Local Accidents Reported on Thursday by City Police
City police reported two traffic accidents on Thursday. The first occurred at NW Ave G and 10th at about 11 15 a m involving a 1969 Ford pickup driven by Carl D Whailey and a 1963 Chevrolet driven by Teresa L Hunter with damage estimates of 200 and 300 dollars respectively Whailey was cited for failure to yield right of way. The second crash occurred at about 6 30 p m in the South Main parking lot involving a 1974 Ford driven by Tony L Garza and a 1975 model pickup driven by Robert F Roberts Garza vehicle sustained about 300 dollars damage and the Roberts vehicle about 75 dollars.

Summer School Programs Open for High and Middle Schools
The 1977 summer schedule runs June 6 to July 15 for high and middle school sessions. Driver education begins Monday and ends August 15 with 32 class hours plus six hours of range and three hours in town. High school courses cap at four quarter units with per quarter unit tuition of 15 dollars and up to 30 students per teacher.
Andrews High choir wins big at state contest
Andrews High School choir members earned 17 awards at the state solo and ensemble contest in Austin. Director Tom Adams announced the results on Thursday. Firsts went to Betty Slocumb Jeff Yount. second place to Lucy Tochterman Carol Adams and Mike Taylor. the AHS quartet of Brad Ham Len Partain Blaine Pounds and Gary Ragland also won. Madrigal singers with Bill Buckley Kim Chesney Todd Funt Marianna Miller Gary Ragland Cynthia Sellers Dennis Taylor and Miss Lee CHOIR also placed.

In Andrews County the cotton crop faces severe heat wind and drought with no rain for weeks. Agriculture agent Lee Tabor warns that without rain farmers may lose much of the crop and sorghum planting could begin soon. Hail accompanied a near inch of rain at one farm but damaged plants.
