Funeral services were held Tuesday at Means Memorial United Methodist Church for 67 year old former city councilman Sammy Arnold of Midland. He was pronounced dead on arrival about 7 p.m. Saturday at Midland Memorial Hospital. See ARNOLD, Page 14.
The 26th annual A J R A Rodeo unfolds June 8 9 10 and 11 sponsored by the Andrews County Sheriff's Posse. Events begin with a parade at 4 30 p m and nightly rodeo at 8 p m Grand Entry leads each show with a calf scramble for under 12 year olds and no entry fee though parental authorization required. Saturday features gift certificate drawings from C R Anthony's and B Williams plus a $50 gift from B Williams. Tickets cost 1 from Posse members. Sheriff's deputies recovered three stolen oilfield pump jack motors in Winkler County. The Exxon property was taken last week from the Means Field near Florey Park and valued at $2,367 as investigators pursue leads.
A 20 year old local man Roman Diaz Jr was arrested Sunday on charges of criminal mischief after four tires were slashed on a 1976 Ford pickup owned by Mike Reid. Diaz was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Jay Williams with a $3000 bond and released after posting bail.
City police report four collisions over the Memorial Day weekend with no serious injuries. Friday 11 20 a m at Eunice highway and NW Mustang Drive a 1967 Ford driven by Corinne McAdoo and a 1974 Ford driven by Jerry Norman collided. Norman received a yield right of way ticket. Damage estimated at 150 each. Saturday 11 50 a m at 200 North Main a 1975 Ford driven by Jon Clements backed from a parked position into a 1975 Mercury owned by Delbert Wieser. Mercury damage 125. Saturday 1 20 p m at 100 NE Ave A a 1973 Ford driven by Steven Bailey collided with a 1976 Ford driven by Sherry Overman. Overman cited for improper start from parked. Bailey damage 200, Overman car 50. Sunday 10 35 a m at SW Ave I and 2nd Street a 1975 Ford driven by Donna Antle collided with a 1964 Ford driven by Ronnie Hanson. Antle cited for failure to yield right of way. Both cars sustained moderate damage.
