The cash register containing $100 stolen from Red Spencer's Humble Service station was recovered Thursday east of town on the Stanton highway. Burglars forced entry by the back window. no other disturbances were reported. Spencer said the register was damaged but keys remained inside. No clues identify the burglars.
Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Huckabee announce the Fashion Shoppe Anniversary Sale starting Friday. The store opened a year ago and offers a fine line of nationally advertised ladies ready to wear. Everything is reduced to clear out old merchandise for new shipments. The owners invite shoppers to visit Friday.
The Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Day will be aired at 1 p.m. by Humble. The 13th Cotton Bowl features the champion 8. M. A. team against the Oregonian visitors with Kern Tips handling play by play and Alec Chesser assisting. Stations include WRR Dallas WFAA Dallas WOAI San Antonio KPRC Houston KRIS Corpus Christi KVAL Brownsville RV Edinburg KGNC Amarillo KOSA Odessa KIM Pecos and KROD El Paso.
Wallace gives free passes to the Mustangers for the film Triple Threat. The passes go to Andrews Mus pass Jimmy Burleson who announced the offer Wednesday. Burleson, theatre manager, said football lettermen admitted free if they visit his office. Also extended to Mr and Mrs A L Clement of Ford Humble pump station whose son Johnny Clement Pittsburg Steeler pro player appears in the movie.
The Rev Frank Story former Methodist pastor visited his sister Mrs J T Beams in Andrews with family. Mr and Mrs F B Stickney visited relatives in Midland and Lovington NM. Visiting are Mrs Robert Scott Wells Point and Mrs Cleta Meachum with family. Lon Fry from Santa Paula CA and R A Moxley group from Wynnewood OK and O'Donnell also visited. Guests include Mr and Mrs W R Gibson Ruth Thomas and others from Ta hok a Miles Carlsbad NM and more.
A boy Dennis Alexander Williams arrived December 26 to Mr and Mrs Ray Millard Williams weighing 8 pounds 12 ounces. Another boy John Michael Thrasher was born December 24 to Mr and Mrs John Henry Thrasher at 6 pounds 12 ounces. A girl Sandra Kay Lane born December 28 to Mr and Mrs Franklin Lane weighing 6 pounds 3 ounces.
An informal survey of town business leaders shows most cafes service stations groceries and barbers open on New Year’s Day while clothing hardware and variety stores face mixed plans. Some merchants including Norman Galloway and Carl Underwood vow no closings except Sundays or holidays, others consider shutting if the town closes.
An express agent warns of citrus shipments piling up at the Midland depot with fruit expected to rain in days if not moved. Cards have been mailed to R. E. Rushing C. W. Roberts P. B. Funeral services were held in Lamesa Friday for Jan Morgan eight weeks old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Morgan. Interment followed in Lamesa cemetery.
County Judge Milton Ramsey and family joined relatives in Abilene after a Little Rock trip. Many locals spent Christmas visiting kin in Athens, Perry, Weatherford, San Angelo, Brownwood, Hobbs, Pensacola and other Texas/Oklahoma towns.
Funeral services will be held in Ranger Thursday afternoon for Bobby Pruett son of Mr and Mrs Dick Pruett who died in Hogan hospital Big Spring Wednesday after an attack described as polio Bobby was brought to Big Spring December 23 for treatment and died there.
Mrs. Edgar Burkett local post mistress thanks patrons for patience forebearance and kindness during the Christmas rush. She notes a deluge of packages cards and mail and is happy holidays are past. She and staff Mildred Oswalt June Whitcomb Betty Luck Nell Thompson and Bob Luck join in the appreciation.
Woodie Aldredge has purchased the fixtures of S. W. Burkett's hamburger shop south of the Post Office. He plans to open a sandwich shop in the building now occupied by the Andrews Newsstand. Burkett said he would keep the Fort Worth Star Telegram agency there.
Denton Texas December 31 Johnson Johnson and Johnson are the scorekeeper trio at North Texas State College basketball games. James and Johnny Johnson share initials and hair color but are not related. Charles the tallest, from Fort Worth, is a North Side High product and former captain who lettered four years.
Mack Farmer announces the formal opening of his new brick and tile Farmer's Food and Super Market located five blocks north on highway 51. The store features a self serving meat department a refrigerated milk counter and a large parking area running on a cash basis inviting the community to inspect the modern spacious establishment.
Columbia's Triple Threat a full-length feature drama about a girl and a football team opens at Wallace theatre Friday Dec 31. The film features top pro stars including Sammy Baugh Paul Christman Johnny Clement and several NFL hall of famers in a story of a cocky quarterback finding touchdown glory.
A Delaney Company wildcat test in northwest Andrews County targets the Devonian at University No 1 B. The well lies about 11 miles NW of Andrews, expected depth over 10 000 feet with 3 250 feet elevation. Delaney No 1 A University is nearby and has 3 100 feet depth limit.
Dr. George W. Cox Texas health officer reports 2,531 Texas deaths from pneumonia in 1947 and urges prevention through strong resistance to cold, proper clothing, controlled indoor temperatures, and early medical consultation for colds to avert pneumonia.
City officials announced the sewerage system is in operation and open to about 400 business houses and residences. The system has been enlarged to double the initial expectation after bond authorization, and officials urged all homes and residences to connect to the sewer line.
Nineteen charges were filed in O. G. Weatherby s Justice of the Peace court from December 20 to 27. Drunkeness and traffic violations were the main offenses with eight drunkenness charges and seven traffic counts. Two traffic cases arose from a holiday wreck. Two charges involved hunting with an un slugged gun. Two charges alleged swindling by passing bad checks.
American Legion Post 380 will hold a New Year Eve dance at the Legion Hut on December 31. Post adjutant Charlie Burkett says the Rhythm Roughnecks will perform starting at 9 pm. Admission is $2.40 for couples or singles. Burkett invites all to see the old year out and the new one in.
Mrs. Homer Hurst of the Humble camp has learned that the body of her brother James A. Hall has been returned from Margraten Holland. Hall served in the signal corps and was killed in an accident at Kassel Germany on May 16 1945. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Hugh Hall of Sweetwater. Reburial will be in Sweetwater cemetery.
Mrs. Gray Frazier reported a well kept black cocker spaniel that has taken up at her house near the FHA development northwest of town. She asked the owner to claim the pet before her children form strong attachments. Contact Mick Manning residence 207W2.

H L Atkins Jr will leave his 15 year role as county agent in Andrews Ector and Crane counties on New Year’s Day to assume the West Texas division management of the McElroy ranch company. He will oversee about 200 sections across Crane and Upton counties with holdings in Crockett Ector Pecos Andrews Texas and Lea Chaves counties New Mexico. A E White will replace Atkins as Karnes county agent. White a 1942 Texas A&M graduate and WWII veteran will live at 805 West 24th Street with his wife and three children.
