Three Hurt In Separate Christmas Weekend Wrecks

Three persons were hospitalized after two separate wrecks during Christmas weekend near Andrews. Mrs. Juanita Grace serious then improved after a two car collision on Seminole highway north of Andrews. John Thomas Brown’s single vehicle turnover near Andrews caused no injuries. Gretchen Marie Walling was hospitalized for observation after a two vehicle collision at NWG and 5th.

Kiwanis Elects New Officers In Dinner Meeting

Dr. B. B. Stephens was elected president of the Kiwanis Club at a Tuesday night dinner at Main 66 Cafe. New officers include Bill Terry vice president H L Mathney secretary treasurer and directors Gene Pearson Bob Aldridge Maurice Simmons Roy Bennett and Mark Kennedy. Outgoing officers are Pearson Hamilton and J C Howell. Cotton Clover from Odessa spoke with a Downtown Kiwanis delegation. Installation for the new officers is planned for early 1966.

Injured Sul Ross Student Regains Consciousness After Crash

Jerry Martin a Sul Ross College student from Seminole who was critically injured in a December 6 car crash near Franke City regained consciousness a few days before Christmas. His condition remains listed as poor though improved at the hospital. His companion a Valentine youth was killed instantly in the one car turnover.

Permian General Hospital increased room charges starting January 1 to balance the books. Private rooms rose from 14 to 17 dollars per day, with semi private rooms also affected.

District Court Docket Sets January 1966 Calls and Trials

The 109th District Court schedules the January 10 docket call at 10 a.m. with Judge Russell Austin presiding. Civil jury trials are set for weeks starting January 11 and February 1 from 9:30 a.m. Grand and criminal docket calls are on January 10. Special settings include Belcher v Petroleum Gas on December 29 and McCrea v Humble Oil on January 4. The civil docket lists about 90 cases, many compensation suits and several damage cases, including suits by Doyie Nelson and Virginia Battreal against Andrews County and others, and a suit against Andrews City and Piggly Wiggly over a dumpster incident.

Oilfield theft reported in El Paso Natural Gas area

Mercury was reported stolen from meters at El Paso Natural Gas during the night Monday. Deputies were investigating the theft this week and continued to probe thefts of tires and wheels in the oilfields last week.

Poll Taxes Signal Big 1966 Voter Turnout in Andrews County

County records show 585 poll tax receipts issued for local and state elections with 372 sales and 213 exemptions. Several county races already field candidates including district clerk Owen Doggett and commissioner W. W. Barnes, while former mayor Bud Duncan seeks county judge. Deadline for poll tax pay is January 31 and filing for May 7 Democratic primary closes February 7.

Christmas Eve Attack Brings Charges

Hoot Gibson Robinson was jailed on charges of simple assault drunk and contempt of court after a disturbance at a T. G. Y. store. He allegedly entered after hours claiming a layaway present and grabbed the manager by the throat. He remained jailed until December 27, paying a $40.50 contempt fine and $750 bond.

Andrews Mustangs Rally Past Del Rio for 71 65 Victory

Andrews Mustangs defeated Del Rio 71 to 65 in San Angelo Wednesday to improve to i1 on the season with one loss. Pat Winfield led Andrews scoring 35 points as the team trailed 22 21 after the first period and 41 39 at halftime before coming back to win.
