In Andrews a dense fog swallows the town during a wedding, delaying vows as the bride unknowingly marries the best man of another couple. Tales of old times, Army retirements, and a curious pig surgery mirror the town’s quirky Christmas mood and distant echoes of past events.
Plans to realize a long time dream move forward as Martin Lemmon and Merrel announce that a master plan for a Lake Area park has begun. Local firm studies layouts with input from Tex Tech students and a sophomore architecture class.
The Andrews Kiwanis Club hosts an 8 p.m. talent contest at the high school auditorium with Webb Air Force Base airmen and local acts. Sergeant Martinez on guitar, Nick Trapatsas as emcee, a mock wedding sketch, five to six pro acts, and eight contest acts are planned.
Plans finalized for the annual Andrews Basketball Tournament featuring Pecos Seminole Jefferson El Paso Odessa Big Spring Midland and twelve teams total Host Andrews meets Midland in opening night the event uses two gyms with games 6 7 15 pm Thursday and Friday semifinals Saturday finals Saturday night Multiple standout players named including Bubba Ephman Bill Simmons Jan Laudermilk Jerald Schellhorn Larry Cooper Jim Owens and Donnie Wilson.

J. D. Partridge with his brother and sister of Odessa attended funeral services for his grandfather Wm. E. Manning in Burns Kansas at 2:00 p m on Thursday. Manning died at his Kansas home Sunday.
The murder trial of John Dee Burks in 109th District Court is postponed as Burks has not secured a lawyer. Judge G C Olsen indicates the special venue residents need not report tomorrow and that a January date is likely. Burks, from San Angelo, is accused in the Oct. 21 slaying of Verdver Parsons near town.
Funeral arrangements for Joseph Bryan Gray, 49, who died suddenly Friday, are pending at Hammer Funeral Home in Eastland. A carpenter foreman on an oil refinery project, Gray collapsed on the job around 3 p.m. and died of a heart attack after being taken to Permian General Hospital. Singleton Funeral Home will handle burial in Eastland Saturday. Survivors include his wife, three sisters Loyce Gray of Fort Worth, Abbiel Gray of Fort Worth, and Mrs. T. H. Pyle of Seattle, and one brother W. C. Gray of Fort Worth.
Oil spotlight reports two new pay sections Wolfcamp and Pennsylvanian proven in Bakke multi pay area of Central Andrews County. W E Bakke’s Midland No 3 flowed 175 barrels in 18 hours from Wolfcamp after 11,000 gallons acid. Pennsylvanian flow reached 297 barrels in 32 hours through a 14 inch choke. Immediate test planned on both zones. Woodley Petroleum Co No 1-6 J E Parker offset to Bakke discovery also progressing completion in Devonian Ellenburger with 22 bph from Devonian and 367 bbl in 12 hours from Ellenburger. Five automobile collisions occurred in the city last week with no injuries. At 5:20 pm Tuesday George Brown and Herbert Martin, both of Andrews, collided at Northeast 2nd and Ave E causing $250 damage to each vehicle. Faye L. Sheppard faced speeding and license charges after a collision with Francis Neal Thompson at South Main and Sixth. Thompson rammed Walford Buford McLeroy’s car at a stop sign. Later Thursday at Southwest 5th and B street Hillis Herren’s car hit Francis C. Hyman’s, with $50 damage to each. Hyman’s infant child received minor treatments at Permian General Hospital. Main and Broadway noted on the page.
First Baptist Church choir directed by Byran Baker performs a 7 30 p m sacred music concert in the church auditorium. Andrews Music Club sponsors with solos ensembles and group singing. Dorothy Paslay piano Susie Slayton organist. selections include several hymns and spirituals.
