Farmers and Ranchmen to Meet Here Sat

Local farmers and ranchmen are urged to attend a soil and range conservation meeting at the Andrews County Courthouse next Saturday December 4 at 2 00 pm. The session will elect committeemen to supervise the 1938 Oil and Range Conservation Program and discuss other matters. Andrews County pay rates for general crop diversion have risen to 6 per acre for 1937 with a 30 cent per acre increase over 1936, plus a five percent land base boost, bringing several hundred extra dollars in payments.

The field is marked today by marble monuments where a clash occurred as George A. Custer led his 7th Cavalry against Sitting Bull and his coalition. The fight resulted in a decisive defeat for Custer and his 260 men, with many Indians reported killed or wounded.

Unemployed in County Reported by Andrews Post

Twenty seven unemployment boards were turned in at the Andrews post office to date. Postmaster Edgar Burkett said Thursday three came from outside the county but listed Andrews as their home. The text notes census figures for Andrevra.

The division engineer O G Weatherby announced approval of a flasher traffic light for Andrews to replace a stop and go system. An application to the highway department seeks permission to install two lights near the school and at Main Street and the highway intersection with free installation by the department and city upkeep only. Weatherby says the flasher type suits Andrews best.

Two New Wells Spudded This Week in Andrews County

Two new wells were spudded this week in Andrews County. Honolulu No 8 Parker in north section 6, Block A-44 set surface casing at 200 feet and will resume drilling Friday. Sinclair Prairie in north Fuhrman area set surface casing at 200 feet in section 11, Block A-42 and will resume drilling Friday.

Death of Dr W A Jackson Shocks Texas Tech

Dr W A Jackson head of the Government Department at Tech died suddenly of heart failure in his office on Tuesday. A Baylor junior when the Editor was a freshman he was noted for kindness to freshmen and helped build one of the strongest Government departments in the state. He will be missed by students and friends across Texas.
