FBI agents probe possible ties between the Symbionese Liberation Army and the New World Liberation Front after explosives were found at the apartment where SLA members were captured. Investigators cite NWLF claims of 23 bombings and one arson since surfacing a year ago.

State Tax Board approval for the proposed .2 million high school in Alexandria appears assured after the Control Board recommended financing plans. If approved, bond sales set for Oct 22 will cover about half the cost with the remainder funded by a property tax levy increase of about 1.83. The Alexandria-Monroe Taxpayers Association opposes the project and threatens litigation unless a bond costs bond. School officials praise the teachers contract reached with the Alexandria Education Association noting salary benchmarks in Madison County.

Line reports sewage intrusion into the methane gas system at the No 2 digester of the White River treatment plant causing pumping out and tank washing. About 1.4 million gallons of sludge will be flushed, with odor noted but not severe. Repairs by Shambaugh & Son cost about 10000 dollars, linked to a separate plant upgrade. The No 1 digester will then be emptied and inspected to prevent recurrence.
