Moro death ends Italy hostage crisis in Rome
Aldo Moro’s bloodstained body was found in a parked maroon Renault in central Rome, ending a 55 day siege by Red Brigades. Police say 11 bullets struck Moro as he was kept in captivity, with prosecutors noting a staged killing amid the extremists’ political theater. World leaders condemned the murder and called for unity as Italy mourned.
