Preliminary talks with Mel Simon Management Associates focus on acquiring the downtown Sears, Roebuck and Co. building for public library use. Library Director David Bucove says discussions with Sears and Lincoln Life are exploratory with no formal agreement yet. The Sears property could offer 90 000 square feet, larger than the proposed 13 000 square foot facility, but conversion challenges and costs loom.
