Future of Jail Plans Highlight Unsafe, Inefficient Layout
A report finds the six level jail space is unsafe and inefficient with nonfireproof offices and storage, no emergency lighting or alarms, a totally inadequate lobby, only one public restroom, and visitation in the secured area reducing privacy. Poor lighting plumbing and heating worsen conditions while evacuation in a disaster appears nearly impossible.
Jail renovation study recommends added cellblocks and offices
Surveyors say current security areas would offer little difficulty to prisoners escaping and propose new day rooms, expanded admin offices, squad room, crime lab, and recreation space.
