Madison County jail faces remodel or new complex option
The second in a series on the Madison County jail outlines two paths: a costly renovation of the aging 1938 facility or construction of a new police and detention complex. A county survey recommends substantial remodeling or new build, with costs exceeding 1.5 million dollars plus land, and suggests expanding north of the jail for space. Remodeling favors location but the 40 year old building, now in poor condition, raises code concerns and questions about its viability.
