Golf legend Sarazen blasts monster courses and greens
Gene Sarazen condemned modern big courses and oversized greens as dulling the game. He cited the 7,191 yard Bellerive layout and 10,000 to 13,000 square foot greens, criticizing pace and the rule allowing players to pick up on greens. He urged drastic course reductions to restore excitement.

Senate Eyes Sports Bills In Committee
United Press International reports a bill to create a five year boxing czar was sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee without recommendation after a subcommittee inquiry into the Liston Clay bouts. The panel approved a companion measure exempting player drafts from antitrust laws and sought to ban football telecasts conflicting with high school games, potentially ending many Friday and Saturday pro games from early September to December. Concerns arise over scheduling conflicts with preseason NFL games and local high school interests. Denver Broncos players also played basketball to stay in shape, aiding a ticket drive, while Frank Lockhart won the 1926 Indianapolis 500.
