In Erie County Court, Albert Pass, 58, a former lieutenant to UMW President W. A. "Tony" Boyle, was found guilty of first degree murder in the Yablonski slayings. Underwater Rescue Expert Al Stover Among Sub Rescue Victims
AP reports four men trapped in a 351 foot midget submarine as rescuers worked to reach them. Albert Stover, 51, famed underwater rescue expert, lay unconscious or dead in the rear chamber with Clayton Link, 31, son of the submarine’s inventor. Robert Meek, 27, and Archibald Menzies, 30, were in the forward compartment in good condition after the sub was freed. Stover’s career spanned Navy service, diving medicine teaching, and deep-diving vehicle piloting, including a rescue of a hydrogen bomb.
