Major State Banks May Raise Prime Interest Rate to Eighty Two
Indiana financial officials expect leading banks to lift their prime rate to 8 percent after eastern institutions. The Indiana National Bank moved quickly after the action was announced. State law caps at 8 percent on single payment loans, but excludes corporate loans. Installment loans can total 16 percent with principal reductions, according to Director Sauer. The change likely won’t affect Indiana banks’ competitiveness since large lenders align on the same prime rate.
