US posts smallest deficit in five years
The United States ended the fiscal year with about a 3.6 billion dollar deficit the best since 1960 though final figures may shift. Commerce Secretary John T. Connor says the outlook remains strong with GNP up about 10 billion in the second quarter. The stock market moves may or may not reflect activity. Machine tool orders fell in May for the second straight month but stay near wartime highs. The Senate kept a 100 dollar duty free limit on goods brought home by American tourists.
