The Indiana State Teachers Association reported via poll that 74 percent of 15,000 teachers support sanctions to block new hires in 40 areas or four states, though 58 percent favor some form of work stoppage. William McChesney Martin Jr testified before Congress that the Federal Reserve should slow easy credit to prevent inflation without triggering deflation. Obituary notes list Mrs Estells M Farlow 94 of Morton St widow of John H Farlow died Wednesday at 790 pm at the Americana Nursing Center born May 18 1870 in Green Castle to William and Macy MacAshland and long time Anderson resident with four children fourteen grandchildren and several great great grandchildren to be viewed at Brown and Butz Funeral Home with last rites Saturday at 1 am at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery also reporting are funeral notices for Mrs Mary Emma Rice 89 of Park Place God in Elk City Oklahoma and other Rice family members including sons and daughters with services arranged by Martin Funeral Home Elk City Oklahoma. the notices mention residences in Texas and Oklahoma and Church of God ministers and relatives.
Dunn James postmaster at Fairmount for 18 years dies at his home on Wednesday evening. A Grant County native, he had managed the License Bureau in Marsal and was beer branch manager for the Motor Vehicles Bureau in Indianapolis. Surviving include his widow Laura, two sons, a sister and brother, and four grandchildren. Final rites set for Saturday at Hunt Funeral Home with interment at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery in Marion.
An Elkhart County grand jury indicted Fran Pinkerton of Goshen on charges of involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence in connection with the February 1 death of 13 year old din Wenger who was struck while riding a bicycle by a motor vehicle.
