Officials of Madison County’s Miree Selective Service Boards announced a March draft call for 16 area youths and 66 men in pre induction physicals. Inductees and those with physicals report March 16 as the February draft surged with 2 youths entering the Army and Marine Corps.
A Eastern jet bound from San Juan to Miami was hijacked Tuesday by a gunman after takeoff from Maracaibo. The plane carrying 111 passengers and seven crew landed safely in Havana, then returned to Miami under a new State Department deal allowing hijacked planes and their passengers to return on the same flight. Flight 955, with stops in Atlanta and Miami, continued to Puerto Rico after the Havana landing, while Cuban authorities announced a policy shift permitting return of hijacked flights without delay.
Andersons Municipal Water Works earned first prize in community relations for Indiana cities in the 500K to 100,000 category at a weekend conference in Indianapolis. Ralph C.
