Burglars Steal 100 Phonograph Records From Dallas Home

Mrs C F Hadsell reported a burglary in Dallas where a thief or thieves took 100 phonograph records. She told police the records’ lyrics are all in Greek and noted the Greek content as a notable detail.

Local Teachers Attend Eastern Indiana Conference at Ball State

About sae teachers from Anderson Public Schools will join the third annual Eastern Indiana Teachers Conference at Ball State College in Muncie. Supt. G. E. Ebbertt will preside Saturday afternoon. 50 local teachers will take part in the program. Total attendance expected is 2,400 instructors from 40 cities. Dr. John Emens and Dr. Henry H. Hill will speak in the afternoon session. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Delegations from Anderson, Alexandria, Elwood, and other cities will be represented.

Bright Florida Meteor Seen Over South Florida

A large meteor flashed across south Florida on Monday night drawing hundreds of observers from Florida to Cuba. Pilots reported near misses as a commercial liner and another plane took evasive action. A Fort Pierce pilot and a Key West flyer both altered altitude, while motorists swerved to avoid debris. The Miami Weather Bureau said it burned out around 2000 to 3000 feet over the Everglades, about 30 to 40 miles southwest of Miami International Airport.

Wilson Warns on Serious Service Problem From Personnel Loss

Wilson told a House Armed Services subcommittee that the armed forces face critical personnel losses. He urged higher pay and allowances to retain trained officers as a growing threat to U S military effectiveness. Radford and others supported the proposal amid a two-year-old Joint Chiefs memorandum listing factors harming career service. Purdue Veterinary School Bill Passed by Indiana Senate

A three month veterinary school for Purdue University won approval in a hectic Indiana Senate session. The measure, part of a package moving to the House, drew heavy debate led by Sen. Freeman G. Yeager who argued the funds should back local schools. The vote stood 37 to 10 with two absent, as the Senate also advanced highway plans and new bills to reach a total of 975 filed this session.

A Parley meeting last night at the YMCA refined plans for the Anderson Brotherhood Dinner, to be held at 6 30 p m Monday February 21 in the YMCA. Warmer Weather Expected as Two Hurt in Falls

Weekend slippery sidewalks caused several injuries as two people were hurt in falls. Rosalyn Anderson, 27, of 624 Milton Ave, suffered a compound fracture of the left ankle after slipping at 5 p m near 5th and Central. The Central Indiana area forecast calls for a warming trend with highs around 38 rising to 35–40 by Wednesday and Tuesday night lows 20–30.

U S Pilots Claim Red Attack Was Unwarned Over Sea

Sabrejet pilots said Red MIGs shot first during patrol off the North Korean coast. Capt. George F. Williams reported no warning as eight enemy jets opened fire. he described tracer hits and a smoking MIG diving toward the sea after a burst from his plane. Lt. Charles E. Local Resident Escapes Death In Crash Here

Donald Robertson 1328 W 2nd St Anderson was treated at St John’s Hospital after his eastbound car was struck by a northbound New York Central freight at FE 19th St crossing. He was not hearing the whistle and the locomotive pushed the vehicle a half block along the tracks before stopping. Robertson, a Guide Lamp employee, remained for observation with injuries not regarded as serious.
