A multi project drive adds 15 hotels and a water park to the Anaheim area. Marriott Springhill Suites and Residence Inn expand while Courtyard and Holiday Inn Express pursue approvals. GardenWalk hosts a 466 room convention hotel and a Great Wolf Lodge near a car rental hub, all amid demolitions and land prep.
Tourism drives big revenue for Anaheim and Garden Grove with hotel bed taxes funding major budgets. About 20 000 rooms exist as new projects unfold after a slow period. Marriott SpringHill Suites rises on Harbor and Katella, under construction for December. Disneyland and California Adventure drew over 23 million guests last year, with California Adventure up 23 percent in 2012.
The 1050 W Ball Road site once housing Cuban Pete's Caribbean Grill and nightclub remains vacant after a 2007 landlord decision to convert the lot into a hotel that never materialized. Harbor Blvd site and Village Inn property also show long vacancy with no new hotel plans filed. Atlas Hospitality Group and Prospera Hotels executives say demand supports new hotel openings, despite rising room rates and abundant inventory.
Unwanted dirt from other construction sites is being dumped into the vacant Platinum Triangle area bounded by Katella Avenue State College Boulevard Gene Autry Way and Lewis Street. Lennar Corp official says the dirt is being used to fill holes for maintenance while grand plans for A Town remain on hold. Permits to restart building have not been issued, with current development showing 1900 residential units and minimal commercial space.
