A largely quiet, harmonious convention in Butte and Silver Bow county adjourned with no votes or speeches. Delegates including Swede Murphy and officials such as Mayor Davey and Chief Reynolds attended as James H. Lynch chaired the session. The platform denounced Amalgamated Copper and called for tariff reform and anti trust measures while promising fair wages and corporate checks.
Washington reports warn China faces a renewed Boxer revolt possibly equaling 1900 unrest. Dispatches from Minister Conger cite extortionate taxes and anti missionary violence in Szechuan, with church closures and missionary deaths. Chinese edicts order strict troop action and protection for churches, missionaries, and converts. Continued in Page Two.
