Cripple Creek court ordering closure of a gambling house leads John Nolan to turn the establishment over to the Salvation Army. The building features electric light and steam heat as it transitions to religious use.
Cripple Creek report says gambler John Nolan offered his storeroom for religious meetings after district authorities ordered gambling raids. The Salvation Army accepted, opening a social meeting that drew a large crowd, with Nolan declaring the jig is up and the Army may use the building rent free.
William S. Stratton multi millionaire mine owner of the Independence mine Cripple Creek district died at his Colorado Springs home at 9 35 pm after months of illness. He left a sister Mrs Jennie Cobb of San Jose as survivor. Stratton born July 22 1848 in Jeffersonville Ind came to Colorado Springs in 1872 and built a vast wealth from mining. He funded the Independence and Washington mines. profits ran into millions and his wealth was widely estimated at 15 to 59 million dollars.
Denver scientists report a new theory that bursting meteors may ignite forest fires in remote mountain districts near Grand Lake and Georgetown. A fire near Grand Lake threatens property as investigators study the possibility, with opinions due in a few days.

Guthrie Oklahoma dispatch reports farmer Joseph Wilkin of Beauvey County Wisconsin was killed in a dispute over a local school tax levy. The shooter, neighbor PD Crave, surrendered and was released on bail after the incident at Cravens' property.
