At the state convention Utah Republicans refuse to endorse the presidents Cuban reciprocity policy while signaling support for him for the national party nomination.
The Utah Republican convention nominated Joseph Howell for congress and Judge W M McCarthy for supreme court justice. It adopted a platform omitting Cuban reciprocity, supported Roosevelt, and backed tariff protection, labor rights, and a future presidential nomination for Roosevelt. Senator Beveridge spoke after platform adoption amid beet sugar opposition.
Washington reports Chaplain William P. Morrison of the Olympia committed suicide by shooting himself at the naval hospital in Chelsea after recent health troubles. Morrison, a Maryland native, had served as navy chaplain since 1881 and was attached to the cruiser Olympia during maneuvers before repairs at Boston.
Major General Young Brigadier General Wood and aides led a cavalry charge with Emperor William and his guard at Frankfort on the Oder. About 9 000 horsemen struck the blues flank as 30 guns and 2 000 infantry were captured. the emperor directed the charge from a white Arab horse.
Brt Alvord the famed train robber gave up to Cochise county sheriff Leads and Billy Stiles in Tucson. He is broken in spirit with a shattered right arm and can no longer use a gun. He faces charges for attempted mail robbery at Cochise in 1839 and at Fairbanks in 1900, with train robbery a capital offense in Arizona. Juan remains at large.
A boy named Willie Davenport shot his brother while rabbit hunting on a ranch four miles south of town. The buckshot entered the right leg below the hip as the older brother handed him the gun to shoot. The wound, described as dangerous, was dressed by Dr. Bright and the boy was sent to Whitehall hospital.
Thomas O'Brien the escaped convict returned to Deer Lodge and surrendered to Warden McTague after a covert night drive from Anaconda with Joseph J McCaffery Jr, breakfast at the McTague home, a look at the race horse George Tighe, and entry to the prison. He asked governors and reporters for fair treatment, expressed remorse, and awaited likely pardon while denying malice toward the press.
A heated clash erupted at Judge McClernan's courtroom and the auditorium as Heinze aligned supporters took over the Silver Bow county democratic central committee meeting. Chairman Casey refused to proceed while crowds filled the hall, prompting near an hour-long standoff over roll call and seating amid strong cheers for Heinze.
