Crete-a-Pierrot Fallout Faces U S Report In Haiti

The Crete-a-Pierrot incident draws an expected official report from United States Minister Powell in Port au Prince. U S officials doubt action by the State Department while noting Killick’s actions near Haitian waters may fall under three mile limit rules. VESSELS IN AFT CIRCLING THE CRETE-A-PIERROT ADVENTURE

The Crete-a-Pierrot, a 950 ton steel screw vessel, carried a 6.7 inch gun and multiple smaller weapons. Admiral Killick, once Haytien fleet commander, disembarked troops June 27 to aid General Firmin and threatened Cape Haytien with bombardment. The consular corps protested. Killick bombarded Cape Haytien shortly after with limited damage, and Crete-a-Pierrot has since acted for Firmin. The Haytien government disavowed Killick and ordered his arrest. The Panther, a 997 ton steel cruiser built in 1901, armed with several guns, sailed from Danztic on July 9 for the Caribbean. Captain Scheder, German commodore, held audience with Emperor William.
