Constable Cheney Dead After Pistol Duel in Lewistown
Lewistown October 2. Constable A B Cheney of Denton died this afternoon at Sisters' hospital from a wound received a week ago in a duel with Stanley Scoffield a California homesteader seeking to kill Hazel Wright of Denton after she rejected him. Scoffield was killed by the constable. Cheney's wound paralyzed the spine and the body will likely be shipped to Vermillion South Dakota for burial.
