Adolph F. Keppeler, killed in a Front street crash with a No 4 street car about 11 oclock last night in Butte. Antone Lang injured, motion man Al Burley aided victims and Keppeler died en route to hospital. He was German born, longtime Atlantic cafe partner and operator, survived by wife and four children.
One of Germanys best known airmen plans a mid October transatlantic attempt using an aluminum monoplane built by Zeppelin with the goal of completing the trip in 36 hours. The report cites a Berlin dispatch to the London Times.
Warsaw Oct 3 President Pilsudski personally commands the northern front drive which reports the complete defeat of 16 Russian Bolshevik divisions. The staffs of the Third and Fourth Bolshevist armies are captured, along with four division staffs and several brigades. About 42 000 prisoners are reported with 166 guns captured plus 100 field guns, three airplanes, 21 locomotives, 2 500 wagons, 10 motor cars and large stores of ammunition and other material.
Constantinople Sept 30 The Associated Press reports testimony in a Near East relief fraud case. Lt Col Coombs admitted funding lavish dinners for allied officers with relief funds, detailing a $250 July dinner with champagne Russian singers Turkish dancers. Davis testified Coombs promised immunity for insider information.
In Tubbercury Ireland a town hall lies ruined as residents flee after a raid by uniformed men. Firebombs and petrol set fire to the general store and other shops with material losses pegged around 500000 dollars. Twenty Chinese workers were robbed at the Kane hotel basement on China alley and Matin street at 7 30 pm. Four hours later detectives arrested Jim Lee and Ed Wee, recent San Francisco arrivals, at Vroom block charged with the crime. Lee had 330 dollars and Wee a Colt pistol on arrest. victims named them, and the robbers fled after collecting cash.
Scranton Pennsylvania October 3 miners employed by the Pennsylvania Coal Company in the Pittston district have issued a general strike order to take effect tomorrow. The grievance committee blames the company for not answering a protest against the contract system of mining. About eight to ten thousand workers are affected. They had returned to work only last Monday after a ten week stoppage.
