State and county councils of defense meeting at the statehouse adopt a resolution protesting to President Wilson and the Senate against reappointing R. K. Wheeler as Montana United States district attorney. The resolution, offered by C. A. Thurston, passed 27 to 7 with one voice opposed.
French forces reportedly hold a railway segment near the Plage as artillery and infantry clash with German units. Wedges of enemy advance are pushed back by renewed counterattacks, with battles estimated twelve to fifteen miles from key positions.
German offensives push from seas eastward to Soissons and Rheims, capturing towns and seizing about 25,000 prisoners including a French and British general.
