Mines and Metallurgy Building at the World’s Fair
The mines and metallurgy building forms part of the east wing of the exposition’s fan shaped plan. It measures 425 by 750 feet and is divided into eight light filled divisions connected by arcades. Ground space totals about 265000 square feet with 150000 more via galleries, and its façade features a lit golden relief sculpture wall depicting mining and metallurgical scenes. The design aims for lively, novel secession architecture rather than classical monumentality, per architect Theodore C. Link.
