Billings Merchant Seized in Shootout Fearful of Suicide
W H Heffner a Billings businessman and quarry proprietor wandered from home with a 44 caliber Colt pistol after threatening his wife and son. Sheriff Wubbard and Under Sheriff Sayles found him near Canyon creek eight miles west of Billings slept then drew the gun and tried to shoot an officer. He was overpowered and jailed while his sanity is to be evaluated and a possible asylum commitment considered.

JOSHING LEADS TO SHOOTING BROWN AT GARDINER
Livingston May 2. John Ballinger is jailed on suspicion of attempted murder after a late night shooting in Gardiner left Charles Brown gravely wounded. The incident followed a card party at Miss Lulu Stull’s home where jealousy over Brown’s playing was cited as the motive. Ballinger is in county jail awaiting further action.
