Miners Agree Not to Strike on April 1 After Conference

New York March 27 mine workers and mine owners in the anthracite fields had a four hour conference chaired by the National Civic Federation conciliation committee with no major agreement. Workers pressed for eight hour day and higher pay, while operators refused wage or unionization changes and pledged no distinctions between union and non union workers. A second conference may be called within 30 days by Senator Hanna as mediator, with both sides to reflect on proposals.

Emperor washes feet of 12 aged men at Hofburg
