Cecil Rhodes died peacefully in Cape Town at 5 57 p m after two heart failure attacks. Doctors and officials were at his bedside as his last words named his brother. public funeral plans and a Matoppo Hills burial wish were noted. The body will travel to Groot Schuur then be viewed by the public before burial.

Charles Bullock Hanged in Saskatchewan for Murder

Special Dispatch to the Standard reports Charles Bullock was hanged in Saskatchewan for killing Leon Stainton in the Battle River country. The case spanned eight months with a Northwest Mounted Police pursuit, aided by a blood stained cloth bearing a Kalamazoo tailor’s mark. Bullock, once friends with Stainton, travelled via Great Falls and Calgary before being captured in Montana. The Edmonton trial on February 11 to 19 featured American witnesses and strong circumstantial evidence. Bullock did not testify. defense argued identity of the victim remained doubtful. The verdict was guilty and the death sentence carried out.
