UGLY MURDERER AND HIS BABBLE HEINOUS CRIME
Frank Conley warden and John Robinson head guard were attacked by two prisoners, W A Hays and George J Rock, at Deer Lodge prison. Conley was seriously wounded and Robinson killed. Rock and Hays fought with knives and improvised weapons as guards tried to intervene. Conley fired, saving lives but both assailants were wounded. Robinson, a longtime deputy warden, died in the prison office after the struggle. The attack prompted hospital care and ongoing investigations.
