Washington March The feature of the tenth annual Indoor meet at Georgetown was a 1 mile hurdle race between Cornell and Columbia. Cornell sprinted ahead on the last lap to defeat Columbia by about a yard in 9 minutes 2 seconds. Smithson of the New York Athletic Club broke the American record with 5 seconds faster than prior. Smithson finished second in the 50 yard event won by J Rector of Virginia in 6.4 seconds.
Three strong curling bouts provided action last night in Butte. Matches featured Leama and Anaconda clubs with solid play, including a notably well-conditioned ice surface. Team lineups included Martin Martin, William Wratti, and others for Anaconda. Gy Club and Butte entries led by skips, with competitive ends and clear results.
Henry Specht appears in the city returning from a long absence on the West Coast as the district court calendar opens next Monday. The judge is reported in poor health with more than twenty criminal cases expected to be on the docket during the term.

Sam Hildreth's Meglick secured an easy victory in the Santa Anita Derby this afternoon. Smirker challenged on the backstretch but faded in the stretch as Schilling rode the winner to three to five odds. Meelick opened at 3 to 5 and closed at 4 to 3 amid heavy wagering.
Special Despatch to the Standard Rules, March 7. Counsel for Dr. W. A. Allen charged with performing a criminal operation on Minnie Caelson petitioned the district court to transfer the case to another county. They claim bias in Stone County would render a fair trial unlikely, noting a hung jury in December.
