Emmet Birthday Observed By Irish Across Montana
March 4 marks Robert Emmet’s birth anniversary celebrated by Irish groups in Anaconda and Butte. About 100 members of the Robert Emmet Literary Association travel to Anaconda for an oration and music and literature programs under the Phil Sheridan club. Emmet, born March 14 1778, led United Irishmen activism, faced arrest in 1803, and delivered the famous Speech From the Dock before his execution on September 20 1803.
