Addah torpedoed by German submarine with loss of eight

First Cut Made in Coal Prices
Washington, June e aweep ing reductions in the price of bituminous coal at all mines east of the Mississippi river, ranging from 1 to 1.50 a ton to the public with a further cut of 50 cents for the government were agreed upon today at conferences between the operators and government office. Four hundred operators pledged to furnish their product at reasonable prices and agreed to place price fixing in the hands of the government through the defense council's coal production committee. The plan aims to reduce annual operator net by 180 million dollars while saving the government and the coal consuming public even more. The agreement also caps commissions for brokers and ensures the consumer pays the mine price plus transportation and 25 cents per ton. The move excludes anthracite for now, with culm to be settled after July 1.
