Senate committee approves late war tax on publishers
Washington reports the senate finance committee adopted by a vote of six to six and a quarter cent raise on second class postage plus an extra levy on publishers profits over £4000. The plan would yield about $8 million yearly from postage and $9 million from profits tax, with revisions to excess profit tax and postcard rate still under debate. The measure retains the house 50 percent increase on letter rates while considering removing the doubled postcard rate.
