A powerful tornado devastates areas in Oklahoma causing heavy property damage and displacement of about 300 people. Eight deaths are reported elsewhere and no life loss confirmed in the immediate area.
A Boston girl and two male crew members were far from the starting point at midnight as a giant monoplane prepared for takeoff. Much gasoline was dumped overboard before the aircraft finally took to the air amid a populous harbor town. Most residents of Trepassey gathered at the church as the flight commenced and reports say fire briefly communicated with passing ships during the early stage of the journey.
Alvin White, 21, of Harrison was instantly killed when the propeller struck him as he stepped from a refueling aircraft. The incident occurred as he helped set a windbreak during fueling while the plane idled. Witnesses included White’s mother and the plane’s owner. the event followed a picnic aerial circus at Sheridan. The report also notes New York aviation updates on the Friendship monoplane’s 1900 mile overwater course from Trepassey to Europe with slow progress and headwinds expected overnight.

Edwin T. Meredith a local publisher and former secretary of agriculture under President Wilson died at his Des Moines home tonight at 6 o clock from heart failure tied to high blood pressure. He had been ill about four months and returned from Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore a month ago.

Five people are killed in Jamestown when an automobile, speeding across a viaduct, strikes a trolley car being moved to a carhouse. Three Erie, Pennsylvania men and two Jamestown women perished in the early Sunday crash.
Miss Mabel Bell plans a daylight departure from Harbor Grace to fly the Atlantic aboard the monoplane Columbia with pilot Captain Oliver Le Boutillier.
