Congenial Party Outing With Senator Chase Guests
A congenial party spent a day in the Big Hole yesterday as guests of Senator J. B. Chase. They left Anaconda in the morning by the Mill Creek Road enjoying air and scenery despite rough roads from wet spring weather. After dinner at Wise River hotel, a two hour wait occurred. They stopped at Dewey's flats where convicts from the state penitentiary were working on roads and playing a ball game. A brief stop was made at the power plant to see the dam’s flood of water, then returned to Anaconda via Divide and Nissler.

Mississippi Sinks After German Submarine Attack
New York reports the French freight steamship Mississippi of 6677 tons was torpedoed and sunk about 143 miles from Brest on June 11 by a German submarine. 47 crewmen were rescued by a British freighter, with one sailor lost. Surviving officers and crew reached Fayal in the Azores. The Mississippi operated between New Orleans and Havre. A prior Berlin dispatch hinted at earlier French reports claiming the ship fired upon a submarine but scored no hit. A separate note says a gold diamond engagement ring was found around a partridge’s neck near Gaschowits Bohemia.
