Wildfire conditions worsen across western regions as fires burn intensely. Officials say the situation is the most acute for this season, threatening forests and communities with expanding flames and potential evacuations.
Fires rage across Western Montana and Northern Idaho with hundreds deployed. In Essex area flames threaten private timber as crews fight at Hasex Flathead region Helton Glacier Canyon Ferry Marble Creek Deep Creek and nearby forests. Idaho men battle Marble Creek blaze burning on private land, feared strongest fire of the district.
Helena reports foresters near Canyon Ferry will have the blaze under control by evening if winds stay calm. Supervisor C K McHarg notes 30 men on the effort with no damage to property so far. Fire covers Avalanche gulch Hellgate canyon and Magpie gulch with origin undetermined.
