Manus Duggan led 25 men to safety at 2 PM from the Speculator mine and was last seen near the shaft on the 2400 foot level. He likely perished amid a relief effort. McAdams was found dead hours earlier, while Duggan’s fate remains unknown as searchers suspect he fell. First-aid teams struggled to revive him as the mine community questions if Duggan survived.

Wilfred La Montague of East Park street and Henry L Fowler of 24 South Ohio street were rescued after more than 30 minutes with gas and heat. Fowler asked his parents be notified. both men refused hospital care and planned to report for duty at reopen.
